Assemble!
I was hanging out with a friend of mine.  Just talking about our summers, plans, getting acquainted and reacquainted. Never undervalue the importance of being able to have a person with whom you can bounce ideas off of. So hanging out, I got another idea.   I need more unicyclists.

Euphoria.
You know that moment in your life when you come across another person and they are exactly what you need in that particular moment in time and you yell (inwardly and/or outwardly), “You TOO!” I felt that way yesterday hanging out with these two.

His Story
I met another Tony the other day as I walked along the Lake.  He had immigrated here from Holland.  Had four kids and 6 grandchildren.  He was working on restoring this spot by the Lake. It reminded me of a few things. Of our past and our origins. The steps we take.  Of the lives we lead.  Life is simple.  Except for the days that it isn’t.  There are choices, paths and forks...

Fortunately Fortunate.
I met Tony when I took the cab home from a Baseball game that I was covering for the University paper.  We were in the same car for maybe 15 minutes. But he was one of those people.  You know? One of the few that without reservations will share their story. His dad was a European Jew.  His mom was a mulatto. Times were changing and his parents were okay with it.  His grandparents never...

We sassed w/ Wesam
My very dear friend and one of my absolute role models, Wesam, won’t be coming back this year.  It’s made me think a lot about relationships and friends. I definitely do think that it’s possible to be good friends and being half a world away. The world IS a smaller place every day. One of my favorite books is, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. My favorite quote from there is: ...

First Day of Class
Just went for a stroll early in the morning. This isn’t the standard response to classes here! (But I’ll take it.) Union and University bustlin’ as always. Familiar faces! What I like to see. He’s writing his thesis! Tams and smiles! I am so GLAD he is here. Off to the Engineering orientation. My old foe. My old friend and swagger coach. She’s...

Purple it Up
I go to Queen’s University.  I’m a student in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. We’ve got some of the coolest and oldest traditions. On more than one occasion, especially during this week, students wish they were us. So how do you go from looking like this: To this: Fearsome, huh? Let’s find out. This is no iron ring ceremony. So I don’t mind...

“As a Muslim, I’m sick of people asking me how I feel about 9/11. What do you...”
– My own thoughts? It’s strange to think of HOW much of my life since I’m now a teenager has been defined by 9/11.  A war of terror? I’m not for it.  A campaign for peace? Let’s do it! But any cause where people are: maltreated, humiliated and labeled …. simply because...

Queen's Journal
I work for Queen’s Journal.  This happened a full two years before I’d expected to be “ready”.  I love EVERYTHING about it.  Though there is a lot to learn.   This is my friend Andrew. He’s in charge of Editorials, being witty and .. other odd ends. (He also doesn’t know I’m doing this.) Just watch how he persuades these frosh who...

Existere XVII ...
… was brilliant. Lots of stuff happening backstage.  The cast was phenomenal. With the surprise that my friend Hamza was in it also! The number of students at Queen’s University. (Give or take a few!) … and so Existere finished for another year. The lessons were similar, some of...

Hogwarts 2.0
I hope Queen’s University never loses it’s charms and it’s “swagger”.  I photographed a friend from Queen’s at the midnight premiere of HP finale. (He’s the one of the left.) The person on the right is Mason and he is amason/amazing!    He’s a don on the 3rd floor of Victoria Hall and his floor theme is Harry Potter.  It’s is...

Queen's Residences
Every year about a week before classes begin: first-year students begin to move-in. Every student in a Queen’s University residence has a “don”. They are upper-year students who are not just resources, they are friends. (I’m lucky to know quite a few dons whom I never hesitate to bother.) The staff here is absolutely amazing.  Sleepless nights, long hours. Among...
